The town of Arborg is hoping to build an additional 80-bed personal care home in the near future.

Mayor Randy Sigurdson explains they've given readings to a bylaw which would create a special fund for the donations which people have been making toward the construction of the new care home. He adds this way they will have a place to put the money until it can be put to use.

"As part of that proposed personal care home we have started taking donations toward the building of it and those donations will be flowed through the town of Arborg because we can give tax receipts for them."

Sigurdson explains the town currently has one care home but says it's not enough.

"There's a great shortage of personal care homes, actually, all over the province. It's something we've been planning [and] working on for the last couple of years and we're hoping that this 80-bed personal care home that we're proposing will become a reality in the near future. It's all part of the Manitoba Health and how they're going to work with it, and the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority. So there's a lot of hoops to jump through to make it all happen."

He notes the process has been time-consuming.
