Fotheringham Drive in MacGregor is getting a long-awaited facelift. Mayor Neil Christoffersen explains the need.

"We've been looking at doing this project for quite a number of years. There is asphalt there now, but it's broken up to the point that when there's any water it doesn't run off. It sits on the asphalt and increases the problem by soaking in, creating frost boils and things like that."

He says the work's currently underway.

Mayor Neil Christoffersen"We've contracted to tear up part of Fotheringham Drive and put in some more gravel and some geotextile to stop the frost boils and then re-pave it with a different slant on it, so the water will run off to the sides. Hopefully that'll fix the problem."

Christoffersen adds the province is helping out.

"We've got some money from the Provincial Road Improvement Fund that comes out every year on a 50/50 basis to cost-share on the project. We received $100,000 from the province to help us along on the project. We've got the equivalent of two good blocks of the Drive to do this year. It's going to be kind of messy for a couple of weeks but after that, next spring it'll work out very well. We're pleased to get it going this year. We were just waiting for the money to get started."
