Yesterday saw Southport's Central Plains Rec Plex officially open, but there are more new developments in the works as well.

Visions of Independence in Portage la Prairie's now involved with the concession kiosk in the complex.

Executive Director Jennifer Hagedorn's excited about that, and explains it involved several partnerships.

"We partnered with Southport, and with Prairie Partners out of Boissevain, to bring the Sawmill Tea and Coffee Company Food Kiosk to the Southport Rec Centre. A lot of partnerships, a lot of hard work, but it's very exciting, and we're hoping to open December 1st."

Hagedorn says being involved with Sawmill fits in with Visions' mandate.

"The purpose of the Sawmill is to training and employment opportunities to adults with intellectual disabilities. So we took their knowledge and expertise, and had them get us all suited up to open one here. And so we will be providing training and employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. So it's a great community collaboration."
