Farmers are hard at work harvesting their volunteering crops for FOCUS, or Feed Other Countries Undo Starvation.

Peter Hoeppner from Enns Brothers in Portage la Prairie says FOCUS usually approaches farmers looking for support, but this year they decided to try something different.

"The FOCUS group has asked for people to donate time and equipment to take off a harvest, or plant the crop. This year we asked them if we could be an exclusive for this field, just so we could give some more people inside the store some more actual 'stick time' on the equipment we sell."

He explains the details of their crop.

"We're actually doing an AC Brandon, and it's a red spring wheat. This is the only field we've taken on as a project that I believe is kind of owned by the Faurschou's and the Bloom Fertilizer site."

Hoeppner says the contribution from local suppliers has been incredible.

"Munro, you walk in there and say we're spraying the FOCUS field today with fungicide. So they look after you, they go and fill out the bill to FOCUS group and no questions asked they give it to you and away you go. We needed to desecate the field, we didn't have a sprayer on our field at the time and we called up Lincoln Wolfe and graciously provided his sprayer, and a man for no charge."

Hoeppner wants to thank Askin Farms for supplying the seeds, Portage Agri Sales for the fertilizer, Munro Farm Suppliers for their crop inputs such as chemicals, and Gerald Loeppky and Barry Friesen.
