People had a chance to get a car wash from one of the Portage Fire Department's Trucks over the weekend.

It was their Annual Car Wash for Muscular Dystrophy at the Portage Co-op Food Store. Manitoba's Director of Revenue Development for Muscular Dystrophy Canada Averill Stephenson says a lot of cars stopped by to support the Car Wash, including Mayor Irvine Ferris, who made a big announcement while he was there.

"September is Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Month in our organization, and the Mayor and town council have signed a proclamation for Muscular Dystrophy to be awareness month in September here in Portage."

She says the event always raises a good amount of funds for people suffering in Manitoba.

"All the proceeds from that car wash go to Muscular Dystrophy Canada, and in particular clients in Manitoba that are impacted by one of 150 different muscular disorders."
