Portagers are invited to a virtual presentation tomorrow night where potential public transit options for the city will be discussed.

Meagan Boles, Planning/Landscape Architecture/Urban Design Studio manager with WSP, says three options are being presented following a feasibility study.

"We did some initial engagement in June with key stakeholder groups as well as we did a survey through the city website and just collected some information on key destinations and what people are generally looking for in transit," says Boles. "We have used that to inform our transit options, and those are going to be presented to the public on Tuesday... There's a bit of an interactive portion, (we're) looking to get some feedback from people on their preference between the three options."

The public transit options being considered are fixed-route, on-demand service, and a blend of the aforementioned two. The fixed route would have designated stops and routes and operate like traditional public transit. The second option is best described as Uber - but a public platform.

"The service area would more general, sort of encompass all of the city and that would probably look more typically like either smaller buses or vehicles," Boles says of the on-demand service. "And would be operated through an app, or telephone in terms of calling and getting picked up at a particular spot and getting dropped off at your destination."

A virtual presentation and discussion on the transit options is set for tomorrow evening from 6–7 p.m. To register and receive a link to view the presentation contact Bradley Muller at bradley.muller@wsp.com or by phone at 204-259-1490.
