The second annual Family Fun Day is set for Wednesday evening, at Fort la Reine School.

It's something Portage la Prairie's Youth Councillor Donnovan Hillman initiated, and he says last year's event generated plenty of positive reaction.

"One of the most important things about this event is that it's completely free of charge. That means anything that's going on at that event does not cast families, or anyone that attends, anything. So I've been hearing a lot of good feedback from that around the community."

Hillman organized last year's inaugural event with 12-and-under kids in mind.

"Because as the Youth Councillor, you have to hit everyone 18-and-under, so you have to think what brings them in. And, of course, they're going to come with their family, so hence, the name Family Fun Day."

He's also grateful to nine local organizations who've come on board to help, adding he hopes one of them will pick up the event in the future, if the City's unable to do so. Family Fun Day is from 5:30 until 8:30 Wednesday evening.

The nine locals sponsors are Youth For Christ, Canadian Mental Health Association, PCRC, ROK, Central Plains Cancer Care Services, Portage Friendship Centre, Family Resource Centre, Visions of Independence, and the Portage Plains United Way.
