The latest exhibit at the Portage and District Arts Centre was officially opened last night.

It's titled "My House As A Life", and features the work of Winnipeg-based artist Jane Gateson. She talks about the meaning behind the extensive body of work.

"Probably the idea that we present to the world an outer self that people think they understand, and they know us, but there's an interior journey going on that sometimes nobody but our best friends knows. And so there's often that dual track -- you things that you're struggling with, and things that are bringing you great joy, and I think that's represented here."

PDAC Executive Director Paul Legris is impressed with Gateson's work, and feels it's an indication of the Arts Centre's sophistication.

"It means that this is an extremely sophisticated gallery. it's a great piece of infrastructure, and the art is brilliant. And it's amazing because I'm always astounded by the level of the work that comes here, and this meets that bar."

"My House As A Life" continues at PDAC until October 15th.
