The Carman and Community Chamber of Commerce wants to improve the local downtown area and is looking for some help to pull it off. President Scott Johnston says a request has been made to meet with the Town of Carman and R.M. of Dufferin to further discuss the idea of enhancing some greenspace at the centre of the town.

Johnston explains the Chamber is proposing that the Boyne River, Ryall Park and the downtown be incorporated into the Community Pathway.

"We're just wanting to bring different people in the community together and...see if we can't do more together rather than separate."

A few ideas the Chamber is throwing around are adding a boat launch/dock at Ryall Park or even cleaning up the riverbank so that the pathway can run parallel to the Boyne River. A volunteer group has already been working on a clean up effort and Johnston says the Chamber would want to partner with it as well.

And while he says this plan is environmentally friendly, it also is part of a larger vision to see more activity in downtown Carman.

"Whether it's citizens of the community of Carman or whether it's visitors who just come and walk through the community pathway or canoe along the river or enjoy Ryall Park."
