The 2011 flooding that damaged much of the Delta Beach area continues to be a concern for the RM of Portage la Prairie, due to conflicts involving Disaster Financial Assistance. Reeve Kam Blight says the issue revolves around public washroom damage.

"This has been an ongoing battle since the flood of 2011. We have some documentation that supports that we were originally approved to get DFA on our washrooms. So, we did not seek any other measures to get some compensation for that. We thought it was all included in our package as far as all the damage that took place out at Delta. Recently we've been told that it's not covered."

Blight says the RM's resorting to other means to get the finances.

"We're going to be requesting AMM (Association of Manitoba Municipalities) to try and assist us and get some coverage on this so we can help recoup some of our costs. We need to proceed. We're trying to redevelop the campground, etc., in that area. We just can't hold off any longer. Work is going to be taking place out there. But the battle will continue to try and get some funding to cover those costs."
