The Manitoba Sustainable Development's announced the Delta Marsh Complex as part of the Southwest Interlake Watershed Plan, which includes the RM of Portage la Prairie.

Manager of Watershed Planning and Programs Kristin Hayward says they had a chance to give the RM council an update.

"We were here to talk to the council about involvement in an integrated watershed management planning process we're currently conducting in their watershed, in this area. They're already a participant in the planning process we have for the SW Interlake plan. We're here to talk about a change we've made to that planning boundary, and offer them an opportunity to add additional representation."

Hayward explains they're adding an area to their existing planning boundary.

"We are adding an area to our existing planning boundary to include the area along the south shore of lake Manitoba referred to as the Delta Marsh Complex. It's currently not included in any planning process we have underway, and after hearing public hearings at some of the meetings that we've held throughout the watershed and looking at the technical information, it made the most sense to look at adding this part of the lake Manitoba basin to this watershed planning process."
