With the snow almost gone, Portage la Prairie residents are thinking about the arrival of summer, and so is City Hall.

Councillor Brent Budz tells us the 227 Landfill Site, north of the city, has changed its hours, as of the first of this month.

"They're changing to Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 am to 6 pm," he says, "And those summer hours will remain in effect until October 31st. So there is a slight change. Again, the Saturday, but dropping the Monday, so I think it's important for people as they're cleaning their yards, landfill hours have changed."

Budz is also pleased with a new way to notify people affected by water main breaks, which are happening due to the spring thaw.

"Staff will now be going door to door, notifying residents in the affected area," says Budz, "They've done that in the past by leaving a notification letter in the mailbox. And sometimes those mailboxes aren't there, or people aren't checking them that regularly, so we now have generic door-hangers. It's similar to the do not disturb hanger in a hotel. They're more visible, and they can be produced faster instead of waiting for typing up a letter."
