Concerns were raised at Portage city council recently after reports of people knocking on residents' doors and asking to come in to check their ventilation systems. Councillor Melissa Draycott says they would like everyone to know that city staff should not be asking to enter your home. Draycott notes if they ever do need to come to your house, they would always determine that with a pre-arranged appointment.

She says if something happens in your area such as a water main break, city staff might knock on your door to notify you about the situation but they will not ask to come in. Draycott notes if something's been damaged such as a tree falling down on your boulevard, someone may come by to discuss the incident but again they won't be asking to enter your residence. She adds all non-emergency visits are pre-arranged and city staff will always be driving city vehicles and carrying proper identification.
