Similar to when the 2015 RBC Cup came to Portage la Prairie and prompted a temporary name change of Royal Road to 'RBC Cup Way,' an upcoming hockey event will see the street's name altered temporarily.

Portage la Prairie city council approved a request at its meeting last night to re-name Royal Road, 'Rogers Hometown Hockey Way,' in close proximity to the arrival of the touring broadcast. Festivities take place in Portage surrounding the event March 25 and 26.

Signage will be placed along Royal Road South, at all intersections, including: Saskatchewan Ave., Duke Ave., Countess Ave., Dufferin Ave East., Queen Ave., and Crescent Road.

"That signage will appear above the regular Royal Road signage," says Transportation Committee chair Melissa Draycott. "It just a bit more signage to let people know this is the way to the event. And hopefully it will increase a little bit of the excitement going on in town."

The city will be responsible for putting up the signage and taking it down. Hometown Hockey will design and supply it.
