The RM of Coldwell heard from the Manitoba Water Services Board at their last Council meeting. They were updated on Board's five year capital plan.

Reeve Brian Sigfusson says Council outlined their priorities for the Board.

"They have to lower the lake (level), that's one of the most important things to do. But Water Services has to improve on cleaning up third order drains and culverts, that's been lacking because of the flood over these last few years, so everything's been put behind. I don't expect them to do it all in one year, but we'd just like a plan to start moving forward, that's all."

Sigfusson realizes while some of the Board's work is ongoing, the change in provincial government could mean other aspects might change.

"They can change that at the stroke of a pen if they feel there's something more important somewhere else. But the Water Services Board is talking about moving on that Lake Manitoba diversion flood channel into Lake Winnipeg. That would be good -- it's got to happen."

At the same time, he's looking forward to working with newly elected MLA Derek Johnson to move the Lake Manitoba outlet project forward.

"So I think he'll push that along. And I think (Premier Brian) Pallister, being from Portage originally, I have hopes he'll do well for us. But I can only hope, I've seen no results yet, and I can't expect any, as he's only just starting."
