Upgrades to the Lundar Arena are a significant priority for the RM of Coldwell Council.

Reeve Brian Sigfusson says the building was constructed in the 1950s, and is outdated. He stresses the new arena won't just be for Lundar.

"It'll include our neighbours to the south, to the east, and the north," he says, "If we could make a good place for people to come to, and want to be there, and bring their kids, I think it'll be a plus to our area. It might even, down the road, make something else happen for the north."

Sigfusson says a million dollars has been secured for the 2.5 million dollar project, and they plan to debenture the rest.

"We're looking at a 15 to 20 year paydown on this thing," he says, "That's what we're guessing right now, but we've got to do a considerable amount of work before we can say that."

He points out there's some urgency to have all the funding in place quickly.

"We have kind of a bullet tied to our head, too," he says, "That if we don't do something with this money we were granted, within a year, we lose it. And that's usually the way those grants work, whether it's the provincial or federal government, there is a timeline."
