The Co-op Food Store in Portage la Prairie is raising funds for victims of the Fort McMurray fire.

They're hosting a barbeque Friday afternoon, where you can get a smokie or burger with chips and a drink for 5 dollars. General Manager Kevin Dales says our region has needed help before, and now help is needed elsewhere.

"I think we've all been through tragedy, or environmental issues that we've had in our own region, and support was given to us. And as a system Federated Co-op has already donated a hundred thousand dollars to the relief fund for Ft. McMurray, and has committed a million dollars each year for the Red Cross Relief Funds, for any tragedy across Western Canada. We just want to be a part of that group."

All the proceeds from the barbeque will go to the Red Cross Relief Fund. Dales says they've already raised some funds in store.

"I'm hoping to see a lot of people, we're ready to cook a lot of burgers, and with all the proceeds going to Ft. McMurray people. Hopefully they can come out, if they can't we're also taking donations at the food registers, the cash tills, to date we've raised two thousand dollars through that process. So the more we can make, and we look forward to presenting the Red Cross with that cheque next week."

The Barbeque starts at 11 a.m. Friday.
