Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Central region received a little boost, thanks to the efforts of Vivacious Hair Studio.

Vivacious threw a fundraising barbecue with all proceeds donated to CMHA at its grand opening Oct. 14. Central Region executive director Jordan Friesen says the support was appreciated, and it highlights how mental health awareness is becoming a more prevalent topic.

"It shows that mental health is becoming part of the public dialogue," Friesen says. "It's something that we're thinking about not just when we see someone experiencing a mental health issue, but something that we're thinking about in our everyday (life)."

Vivacious owner Kaila Ringstrom says a staff member who helps work with CMHA pushed the idea to support it.

"It's just a good cause, so why not support it," Ringstrom says.
