National Public Works Week begins this Sunday, and it's something the City of Portage la Prairie supports.

City Councillor Ryan Espey it's an opportunity to show appreciation for everything our Public Works Department does.

"And that's everything from infrastructure, drainage, water, sewer, trees, parks, playgrounds, sidewalks, paths, maintaining all of our City buildings, and they provide all the services that we enjoy every day."

Espey says he's seen first-hand how Public Works staff do a lot.

"And I know first-hand that a lot of our staff in the city go well above and beyond they would normally expected to do in their role, and they're a member of a lot of different committees and groups that look after our city and improve everything from roads, to parks, to active transportation. They really work together with all the rest of the community to make this a great place to live."

Espey describes Public Works as a "heavy" job, and City staff does a great job.
