The City of Portage la Prairie will be in the television spotlight this summer.

The French reality TV show 'Full Steam' is including a stop in Portage this summer and Council's approved a $1,000 sponsorship to place an advertisement with the show.

Driedger's excited about the show arriving in Portage.

"We were approached earlier this spring about this TV series, and it's actually done up in French, but Portage la Prairie still sounds like a French place," says Liz Driedger, City Councillor. "We're the only spot in the province that Via Rail will be stopping to film in their 10 shows throughout the year. We're quite pleased with that as it'll put us on the map so at least let those French speaking people know that there's French outside of Quebec."

Driedger isn't sure exactly what they're going to be filming when they arrive but expects a busy time while they're here.

"It's sort of a reality television series, so who knows where they will take the contestants or what they'll showcase. I'm sure we won't know before hand but we're excited to have the crew here. They'll be here for a week and I think it'll be fantastic."

Driedger adds a few local people will have the opportunity if they want to, to apply to be a part of the series. You can apply at their website.
