A month-long campaign by Portage and District General Hospital Foundation (PDGHF) to raise funds to purchase six new chemotherapy chairs for Portage Hospital was a success.

Sharlin Doty and family made a $2,500 contribution last week in memory of grandmother Shelley Ferguson, pushing PDGHF's drive past the mark needed for the chairs.

“We ran the campaign (throughout) March and we were able to raise over $15,000 for the purchase of six new chemotherapy chairs at the Portage District General Hospital,” says PDGHF executive director Erin Miller. “We had many people donating in memory of somebody or in honour of somebody. It was amazing to see.”

Miller says the funds will be provided to Southern Health Sante Sud by the Foundation for the purchase of the new chemo chairs, and expects they will be at Portage Hospital in the near future. She adds the new chairs will help make things more comfortable for patients in the chemotherapy department at the hospital.
