The North Norfolk-MacGregor Foundation had a lot to celebrate last week, at their Richardson Pioneer gala in Austin, which drew roughly 140 people.

It highlighted meeting the Thomas Sill Foundation 18 Month Challenge to raise nearly $25,000 for their endowment fund, which was matched by the Sill Foundation.

North Norfolk-MacGregor Foundation Chair Karen Guth says the night also saw a couple of grants awarded. One was $10,000 for the MacGregor Park 150 Revitalization Project. She says it was in partnership with the federal government.

"We gave $5000, they gave $5000, they matched us. And so they're going to update that park that was developed in the centennial year -- put in all new equipment. They've been working hard at it, getting a lot of the landscaping done. We're going to continue supporting them, so that $10,000 goes a long way toward new equipment."

Guth says the second grant was $30,000, which went to the Victoria Place Assisted Living Complex Project, which has been ongoing for six years.

"We had Dan Sawatsky present. He gave a little bit of an update of how they had people moving into the facility already, and we were really excited about that. So we wanted to make a major contribution to them. There are some finishing touched that they want to do. One is they want to do some landscaping, they want to work on the professional room, and we thought if we made a substantial donation, that would go a long way to assisting them to get there."

Their guest speaker was Olympic gold medal curler Kaitlyn Lawes, and Guth says she was fantastic.
