St. Malo Provincial Park is getting a new $650,000 water treatment plant. Cathy Cox, Manitoba's Minister for Sustainable Development, says they were pleased to get word last week that the federal government will contribute $325,000 to the project. The province will pay the remaining $325,000. She explains why the park needs a new water treatment plant.

"Currently the water treatment plant that exists is only seasonal. So what this is going to do is actually open it up to year-round water treatment which will ensure that people are able to get out in the winter and use those facilities year-round."

Cox says she foresees the park getting year round washrooms and staff facilities ONCE the project is complete. She adds they plan to do the design work this year with construction to start next May and hope to have the water treatment plant ready to go by March of 2018.

Cox notes St. Malo is one of the busiest provincial parks in Manitoba.
