The Portage Friendship Centre held a barbecue and car wash this week in Portage la Prairie. Rochelle Campbell shares what happened.

Rochelle Campbell"I'm not too sure what we profited yet. We haven't got down to the financial part. We had tons of fun. We must have cleaned about ten vehicles today. And we sold out on our burgers, and still have a few hot dogs left."

Many children were involved in the car wash. "We try to work with our children at a young age. We worked with them til they're about 24 years old when Eagle's Fire was open. We're still hoping we're going to have that up and running again. As of right now we just have our youth program which is up to age 12. But I also have volunteers from age 13 to 17 years old."

Enjoying the eventProceeds go toward their weekend camping trips, including Spruce Woods, as well as day trips children attend to see the Goldeyes and Blue Bombers games. Campbell says she hopes to take the kids to the zoo before the summer ends. She adds she feels fantastic for all the efforts and being part of the program.
