The RM of Victoria recently authorized a building incentive application for the Holland United Church. Reeve Harold Purkess says if someone tears down an old building in town the municipality provides five hundred dollars toward the demolition, noting if people put up a new structure they provide up to three thousand dollars as an incentive. Purkess says council's intention at the time was to have folks take a look at a few of the older and more dilapidated properties which have been abandoned and to give people some incentive to clean them up and perhaps build something new in their place. He adds the program has worked well and they're very encouraged by the positive response from residents in the municipality.

Purkess says last year the Holland United Church burned down after being struck by lightning, so those folks have spent the better part of a year getting plans together for a new building. He notes they hope to have the new church in place this summer.
