Preparations are under way for Canada Day in Portage la Prairie tomorrow.

As usual, it'll end with fireworks at dusk, and this year, you'll have the chance to be even closer to them. With the fireworks site moving away from the Island Park bridge, PRRA General Manager David Sattler says they're going to use it for another purpose -- as a place to view the fireworks.

To do that, he says they'll close the bridge to vehicles at 10, and open it for spectators.

Sattler notes the bridge will be closed until about 10 minutes after the fireworks end. However, he points out vehicles needing access to the island will be routed via the causeway.

Sattler adds if you want to watch the fireworks from the bridge, it's on a first come, first served basis, and they'll have security in place to prevent overcrowding.
