The first day of school can be a very stressful time, especially those making the jump to high school for the very first time.

Grade 9 students were the first to arrive today at PCI in Portage la Prairie, and were granted tours of the classrooms and facilities, and they also got to meet some of their teachers. Grade 9 student Jenna Bieberdorf outlines how it feels to be taking that next step.

"It's a lot different. It's a lot more students, more teachers, it's a little bit scary I guess."

Fellow student Seth Prince felt a little different on his first day.

"I'm looking forward to the end of the year," he kids. "I'm just looking forward to getting to know the teachers a little bit more, so I'm not like 'Hey you, can you help me?" He laughs.

PCI Vice Principal Mark Dibol says be involved in your students school life to help ensure they are having a safe and fun experience.

"Check up on your child. Make sure they're going to class -- I've been in this business 35 years -- and I don't know 1 student that has failed because they've attended classes on a regular basis. There's a method to the madness, get to the classes and get involved and (Grade 9's) will have a great high school experience."
