The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Portage la Prairie's Bowl For Kids breakfast took place yesterday and announced they're shooting for the goal of $15,000. Mayor Irvine Ferris refers to it as a portage tradition, and executive director Dawn Froese elaborates.

"I certainly have a Big Brother Big Sister tradition. I think I've been doing it for about 16 years. I guess that makes a tradition. I'm excited about this year's fun theme -- Doctor Seuss. There's so much you can do with that. We're hoping that people will just think they want to get behind it by either being a sponsor or to come and bowl."

Big Brother Cale Laurence was there and says he was a Little Brother when a Big Brother helped him grow in confidence and maturity. He notes he became a bigger man through it all and notes it's always a lot of fun. Laurence recommends anyone interested in becoming a Big Brother to be there for someone, seeing as your confidence will help our youth become confident in life as it did for him.

Donations have been available through canadahelps.org. But they reworked their sites so that individuals who take part can set up their own donations page. You can send a link to your friends where people can donate form there.

The event takes place March 10th and 12th.
