The Austin area Lions Club made a few cheque presentations recently.

"We were looking for a legacy project," says President Don Makinson. "It's 100 years for the Lions and we were looking for a project to commemorate our 100th birthday. The Austin Community Centre was looking to build a picnic shelter so we decided to partner up and it would be our legacy project for the community."

The presented the Austin Community Centre with $5,000, the Austin Chamber received $1,000 toward the Canada 150th celebration and $300 to Sprucedale Industries. They also presented Sidney Community Centre with an automated external defibrillator (AED).

"We've been putting AED's in all the community centres around here, the Lions didn't pay for all of them but we did pay for some, and the Sidney community didn't have one so we stepped up and got them for one."

The Austin Lions' next big event will be the Thresherman's Reunion in July.
