After a few years without minor baseball, the Town of Treherne can once again field a team. In recent years, there weren't enough kids to have a full baseball team, but this year, with the help of parents in and around the town, the program is up and running with 3 teams. Treherne Minor Athletics President Brad Marginet explains why the program has been unsuccessful in the past.

"A couple years ago, the main problem in Treherne was that there just weren't enough kids that were enrolled, there weren't enough kids in the school even, to have programs for baseball and hockey. The main thing that we have going for us this year is we have a number of students in the elementary school that are starting into athletics at a younger age, and that has allowed us to have a lot of teams in minor athletics for hockey and baseball."

Marginet says people are excited to have the program back.

"I think it's just really great to be able to have the kids come out and have a place to play locally, and not have to travel to other towns to play. We're keeping our fees low so that mostly everyone can play. I think parents are really happy to have the program up and going again. There are a number of kids in the area that want to play and the parents are very committed to making sure they're on time to practices and very respectful. It's a very nice area right now."

He says the volunteer group of parents have been working hard over the past few years to promote minor athletics in Treherne, and it seems to have paid off, with 35 kids registered for hockey this past winter, and 50 kids signed up for baseball this summer.
