With the Viterra Championships in Portage la Prairie just around the corner, a local family will be involved in many facets of activities surrounding the event.

Garth Asham and family look forward to contributing to the event.

"My brother has been in the curling business for years. He probably knows more curlers and more of the curling crowd than a lot of people around. He's huge into it, and he's a former competitive curler. Now he's into the entertainment business with the Asham Stompers. He's director and owner of the organization."

Asham says while he's volunteering in the championships his nephew Nathan's a talented curler who will be competing. He adds he volunteered for the RBC Cup, the most recent Scotties Tournament of Hearts, and is looking forward to the Viterra Championships noting it's great for the community.

The event takes place February 8-12 at the former PCU Centre, Stride Place.
