Nicole Bauberger was in the Portage and District Arts Centre opening her exhibit entitled Get There From Here this week on Thursday. Bauberger says she gave a demonstration in the afternoon.

Bauberger giving demonstration"I'm going to do a painting in the same format as the other 220 paintings that are in the gallery space," explains Bauberger. "It's not exactly the same kind of situation. I painted all of these paintings out of my truck at the side of the road."

She says the project was inspired from a time she painted a mountain scene in the Tombstone Territorial Park in Northern Yukon. The scene was painted in stages from spring snow until fall snow when she realized she could use the shelter of her truck. Her presentation Thursday night used projections coupled with stories from the road and some photos of her dog.

Bauberger says a highlight of the paintings include scenes along the Highway of Tears in BC where many women went missing. She explains she included little dresses situated along the scene as if a woman walked there. Bauberger lifted the masking tape from the painting in the shape of the dress of the last one, in memory of the many missing women.
