If you've spent any time around Stride Place lately, you may have noticed work's underway to repair the roof of the Shindleman Aquatic Centre.

Portage Regional Recreation Authority general manager says crews began working on the roof last week and have removed most of the standing seam already. The contractor — Canotech Consultants — is also in the process of installing scaffolding before the interior work needed on the pool can begin.

"That's expected to be wrapped up (today) or by Monday at the latest and then the next stage of construction starts," Sattler says. "We're excited to see progress."

The Shindleman Aquatic Centre has been closed since Oct. 31, 2016, due to stress corrosion cracking the the roof's stainless steel purlins revealed in engineering reports. Sattler adds, the expectation remains the pool will re-open sometime in late November 2017.
