The Portage Plains United Way Shopping Night is tonight in Portage la Prairie.

Executive Director Mandy Dubois says they decided to change the name this year, after receiving some negative feedback.

"In the past, it's been called Ladies Shopping Night but we got heckled by too many men last year that we wouldn't let them in, so this year it's just shopping night. We have over 50 vendors, and 68 tables full of homemade items, homemade businesses, local businesses that come out and display their unique products."

Dubois can remember when it was just a small event in town.

"Two ladies in our community that wanted to show off some of their homemade handmade items, and it used to be at the Glesby Centre with 10-12 tables. We saw 500 people last year, and that was a day when the highways were closed and it was a blizzard. Hopefully, we get nicer weather and we see just as many or more people come out."

Dubois adds there is a $5 cover charge, but that includes a sheet of silent auction tickets as well. There will also be a wine bar.
