A fire broke out in Gladstone this past Sunday at Hunt's Mechanical. Municipality of Westlake-Gladstone Mayor David Single was there and shares the details.

David Single"There was somebody in the building, and I don't know what happened. I'm guessing that person knows how it started, but I really don't know how it started. Sunday afternoon about 3:30 is when I found out about it. And I did go to Gladstone to have a look. The fire was well involved by the time I got there. But they were still able to bring some stuff out of the building."

Single outlines the extent of the damage.

"The roof is caved in. The walls are still standing. But they're no good for nothing. The building has to be torn down as far as I can see. That's my guess. The business hasn't been there for that many years. The building has been there for many years. But it was as a welding shop moreso before."

He adds, "The town will certainly miss this business. And the hope would be that it gets built up as quickly as possible. The fire truck from Gladstone and Plumas were both there. They did a good job. He had vehicles parked outside. He has a tow truck, too. I don't know if the ones that were there were impounded ones or what. But they did suffer damage."
