You may be seeing a lot of activity right now at the Roquette construction site, southwest of Portage la Prairie.

Manitoba Hydro's busy there, ensuring the new facility will have adequate power.

Hydro Director of Corporate Communications Scott Powell says there's a detailed schedule in place, and they're finalizing survey work for the right of way.

"Continuing to survey for construction to begin," he says, "In the areas where surveying's been completed, we're clearing approximately 14 hectares of brush, to make room for the transmission lines. During March, we'll also be installing one of our helical piles, for testing purposes, to make sure everything is the way we anticipate it'll be with those piles."

Powell says they'll begin installing piles at the site in May.

"And then also begin tower assembly," he says, "In July, we'll begin erecting the towers, from north to south. And then through July and August, we'll begin stringing the conductor, and have all that wrapped up by September."
