Lighthouse Christian School in Southport's almost doubled its school enrolment for this fall. Head Academic Supervisor Iris Blume says it's been a busy summer.

Iris Blume"Summer has been very hectic because ever since school was out in June we've been having more students come and register for the fall. Before the end of June it started, and we already had three students by the end of June. Slowly over the summer it just kept escalating and we kept getting more students and more interest."

She explains the reason for the increase.

"We were trying to think what we could attribute the increase in our students to. I know one of the things for sure is that over the past few years we had a couple of different students attend who had some educational challenges. We have been able to see them get their feet under them, and find a path that works for them. With those success stories, word of mouth spread from there."

Alfred MacLarenSchool administrator Alfred MacLaren outlines their numbers.

"Our numbers this year are 40 students so far compared to 26 last year. The highest number we've had in the school is 35 students. That was in the 2007/2008 school year. We are actually building some new lockers, etc. So, it's quite exciting. We've actually had to hire additional staff."

MacLaren says the A.C.E. (Accelerated Christian Education) educational process proceeds at the exact level determined by the child's ability. They believe individualization produces academic excellence. He notes they have a record of their students continuing to demonstrate above average achievement, along with the promotion of godly character training received as part of that.
