A 16-year-old Portage resident shaved her head in support of Central Plains Cancer Services this week.

"I've been thinking about it for quite a while," says Alexa Anderson. "I just wanted to do it for cancer patients going through chemotherapy. A lot of them lose their hair because of that, so I just wanted to show my support."

She says a lot of people have been commenting.

"They've been very supportive and impressed that I would do this," says Anderson. "A lot of people are going to be shocked when I go back to school."

Anderson's got some encouraging words for anyone interested in shaving their head.

"I would say just do it. If you feel like you want to do this, don't let anyone's opinion stop you."

Anderson's raised close to $300 dollars so far and says she doesn't have a goal, she just wants to help out.
