There was a barbecue to celebrate all the hard work done around Portage for the Communities in Bloom Program.

The Portage Community Revitalization Corporation hosted the event, that saw many Portagers make the trip out for a bite to eat. Rob Pehura gives his thoughts on the program, and the barbecue.

"I think it's good, the beautification of Portage is always good to see. My wife's on the committee, so she got me to bring the kids to help support. My son liked the pork."

Nelson Berard took some time to stop in and was impressed with his first trip back to Portage in a while.

"I think it's needed, and the fact that they've stepped up and did a great job -- especially with this barbecue -- with what they've done with the community around Portage la Prairie, it looks nice. It looks more, not dirty or anything Portage was never really dirty, but more looked after. So they did a really good job anyway."

PCRC Community Engagement Coordinator Stefanie McKim was impressed by all the community support.

"We were so ecstatic to see how great the city is looking. We actually saw a couple people picking up garbage by their own free will, and we really feel the whole city has come together on this endeavor."

The Manitoba Communities in Bloom Judges seemed impressed with the BBQ.
