The Endow Manitoba 24-Hour Giving Challenge is this weekend.

Community Foundation of Portage and District Executive Director Mary Lynn Moffat explains they're asking for donations on Saturday November 19th, and explains why.

"Any donations that the CFPD receives within that time frame for our general Smart and Caring fund will be stretched. So this is an opportunity to make our dollars go further, for every $5 we have donated to the general endowment will be matched by $1 from the Winnipeg Foundation."

Moffat says donations will be accepted online, and for a short time in Portage.

"It's all through Endow Manitoba, so people can go to their website and fill the information in there. The office will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. if anyone wants to come down and make a donation in person."

She adds everything raised stays local.

"This is what goes back into the community to support community projects by the non-profit charitable organizations that approach us. So to make the donation you can also get a cheque to us, it had to be dated for November 19th, and it has to be here prior to the 21st because I have to send them off."

Moffat stresses the ease of donating online, but they will be open from 10 till 2 Saturday if you need to stop in.
