It's official: youth soccer will happen in Portage la Prairie.

More than a dozen interested volunteers took part in Wednesday's annual general meeting for the Portage Youth Soccer Association held at Southport; every position on the board was filled. Newly elected president Cliff Hamilton says people stepped up.

"I know that a lot of people were working towards getting volunteers to come out and apply for the position, and getting people to come out and vote for a new board," says Hamilton.

He says they didn't have a lot of volunteers last year, and the few who did help were overworked. That was something they would not allow this year, and with so many volunteers, the season can go on.

"I am very happy," says Hamilton. "I want to make sure the kids of the community have the option of playing soccer."

The board has a few things to figure out and then they will accept registrations. He says to watch their Facebook page and website for information. You can find their website here.
