Oakville's Brandon MacKenzie-Kochen's been selected by the Kelowna Rockets in this year's WHL Bantam Draft.

The 6ft tall, 172 pound defenseman played for the Bantam Central Plains Capitals for the 2015-16 season, earning 20 points over 41 games played. He says the years of hard work are paying off.

"It feels really good. I've been working for this day ever since I started hockey. It's a really good feeling to know it's finally happened."

MacKenzie-Kochen was selected in the seventh round, 152 overall. He  says there really isn't any time to celebrate his achievement.

"I didn't want to jump around or anything like that, because the work just begins now, it's just a little lead way, but the work really does begin."

He adds the Rockets have a good organization and he's looking forward to giving it his all.

"They're a really good team, good organization, good kids to work with. All-in-all a good team."
