The Westpark Royals' junior varsity girls basketball team are the Zone 4 Champions. They defeated Shevchenko Sabres last night at Westpark school 39-34 in a very exciting game.

Royals' head coach Brian Brewer raced onto the court at the sound of the buzzer to celebrate the team's second Zone title in as many years. Royals' Grade 10 player Jada Wieler's played on both championship teams. She led the way with 15 points last night and talks about going up by 5 with just over a minute to go.

"I knew that if we got ahead we had them because once we get ahead we get more confidence. I felt like that really drove up the confidence, and I felt like that really drove up the energy. After that it was all us. Our team, we work so well together, it's just amazing."

Royals' Grade 9 player Faith Carnegie says they worked so hard all season, and it really paid off.

"I think our teamwork was a big part of it, like how we all work as a team, and we just practiced and practiced. Practice makes perfect."

The Royals' have an inter-zone match tonight to determine which team will attend the provincials this year. That game is against Glenborro at Elm Creek, tip off is set for 5 p.m.
