The Portage Curling Club's fundraiser dinner for Team Canada's Senior Men's Curling Team was a complete success last night at the Tavern United in Portage la Prairie.

Club President Jared Munro presented the curlers with well over $1,300 dollars for the team. Portage Curling Club Member's Dean Moxham and Dale Michie are both a part of Team Canada, and Moxham says it felt really good to see such a large turn out for the event.

"It's quite a few people that I've played against over the years and some really good support here in Portage. I mean look at it, 150 people here, and we're quite excited to be given this opportunity tonight."

Portage la Prairie's Mayor Irvine Ferris was also in attendance. He says Portage is very excited for this team.

"This is a really good feeling. I think the whole community is very, very proud of what this rink has accomplished so far. We want to give them a good send-off and wish them luck. I don't think they need luck as they're very, very skilled."

Moxham feels the importance of everything is still setting in.

"You know, I never expected that to ever happen. We put a good showing on in Edmonton, and things went our way at the end, and actually the other 3 guys played super all week to set us up for the win. Really looking forward to going to Sweden, it's coming right around the corner. We're hoping to re-create what we did in Edmonton."

The entire team goes as follows, Skip Randy Neufeld, Second Peter Nicholls, Third Dean Moxham, and Lead Dale Michie. The World Senior Men's Curling Championships run from April 15th to 23rd in Sweden.
