The Portage Collegiate Trojans field lacrosse team plays their first game of the Manitoba High School Field Lacrosse League (MHSFLL) today in Winnipeg.

PCI's been practicing for a few weeks now in Portage la Prairie. Veteran goalie Riley Sveistrup's looking forward to the season starting up.

"We're a different team this year for sure. Last year over half our team was Grade 12's and we were for sure a bigger team and more physical. I think this year we're going to have to rely on our skills more than our size, it is nice we brought in two Grade 12's and I think they'll bring some physicality in for us at midfield which should help us out as well."

Sveistrup will be relied on to stay tall between the pipes this season. He talks about how his team can make his job a little easier.

"I think for us, especially on defence, it's going to be a lot about positioning. I think as long as the defence stays in their triangles it'll make my job a lot easier. If we keep them to the outside it's going to be hard for a lot of guys to score. So if we do that we should be okay."

Today's game goes at 2:30 at Shaughnessy Park in Winnipeg.
