The Portage Golf Club's set Friday as their opening day, that is if the weather permits them to do so.

CPGA Club Professional Brad Young feels with a couple days of sunshine, and warm temperatures, the course will be looking amazing. Young starts by discussing the shape of the greens.

"The greens themselves, they didn't really get any winter mould. Which is nice because last year we had quite a bit of it. I guess it all comes down to when the grass starts growing, if it's growing in sequence, or whether or not we have some rough areas or not. As of right now though it looks like it's really good." As for the fairways "they've wintered well, and a few days of sunshine should get some colour showing up."

Young says they need to be 100% ready if they plan to open, mostly for their older members.

"If we open the course we have to open it fully with carts type of thing. We might have a day or two where it's walking only, maybe only a couple days, but again most of our members are riders. So it's very difficult to open the course, but not open it fully to the membership."

The Portage Golf Club has implemented a payment plan, which Young hopes will drive up membership.

"We're very excited about that. We're introducing the payment plan that can be done over the span of 3 months. Just to be able to eliminate the hassle of putting down a lump sum of money, and making it a little more convenient for our membership."

He adds people have been contacting him with the golf itch for about a month now, and everyone seems very excited for the season's to start.
