The Zone 4 High School Hockey League's best-of-three quarterfinals got underway last night in Morden, Carman, and Altona.  

 

Cougars 3 Trojans 2
Layne Simonson potted the winner 4:23 into the third period as Carman edged Portage Collegiate 3-2. Scott Atkins and Matt Lehmann also scored for the Cougars. Matt Boychuk and Jaden Bohn replied for the Trojans. Cougars netminder Alex Clemis made 34 saves. PCI goaltender Parker Page faced 32 shots. Game two will take place Friday in Portage la Prairie.


Thunder 7 Tigers 1
Brayden Jonasson and Spencer Norrie scored two goals each as Morden defeated Pembina 7-1. Evan Wuerch, Keane Boucher and Finley Wheeler also scored for the Thunder. Riley Patenaude had the lone goal for the Tigers. Morden goaltender Owen Domitruk faced 20 shots. Tanner Harms and Nathaniel DeGraeve combined to stop 29 shots in net for Pembina. Game two goes Wednesday in Cartwright.


Aces 5 Nighthawks 3
Braden Hildebrand scored twice and Matthew Fehr had a pair of assists as Miller downed Northlands Parkway 5-3. Colton Harder, Logan Bueckert and Kirby Sawatzky also scored for the Aces who led 4-1 after two periods. Dustin Wall, Sam Voth and Dustin Unrau did the goal scoring for the Nighthawks. Miller goaltender Declan Enns made 29 saves. NPC netminder Griffin Dyck faced 40 shots. Game two goes Thursday in Winkler.
