A Teulon Collegiate graduate was one of four Manitoban student athletes to receive the 2020 Credit Unions of Manitoba Scholar Athlete Award.

The scholarship recognizes athletes who have excelled in high school sports while maintaining a high academic average. Jacey Ledochowski describes the most important thing she learned playing sports in high school.

“How to be a good teammate,” says Ledochowski. “That’s so important with every sport that you play. It’s about how to be there (for each other) when you lose and how to be a good leader to the players coming up that look up to you.”

She adds this will also help her in other aspects of life such as friendships, relationships, and work environments.

Ledochowski played a number of different sports throughout high school, in school and outside of school. She will be heading to Lake Region State College in North Dakota to play softball but she says her favourite sport she played at Teulon Collegiate was basketball.

“It’s such a monumental sport for me. I’ve had success in it, I’ve had losses that hurt that you remember,” says Ledochowski. “So, it’s definitely basketball.”

Her biggest challenge this year will be balancing her school work while trying to play at a high-level in softball. She notes she is looking to go in the medical field.

Ledochowski thanks her coaches, her parents, and her teammates for helping her get to this point in her life.
