The Portage Terriers are now one win away from their third MJHL championship in a row. The OCN Blizzard hometown crowd was taken out of the game last night as Portage picked up the 3-1 victory.

With the memory of game one and two still in their minds the Terriers came out stronger in game five. Despite three power play opportunities in the first period Portage was unable to find the back of the net. The Terrier defence limited the number of odd man rushes against Kurtis Chapman.

Portage would kick off the scoring less than a minute into the second period. Ty Barnstable broke over the blue line on a two on one. He took the shot and slid it under the pads of Brett Epp.

Eight minutes later Portage scored on the power play. Terrier captain Riley Thiessen hit Mackenzie Dwyer with a perfect pass and he put a one-timer in the middle of the gaping cage. The Blizzard poured on the pressure as the period moved along and they found the net late on the power play. Justin Nachbaur knocked the puck home at the side of the net during a goal mouth scramble.

OCN continued to pour on the pressure in the third period but Chapman was up to the test. He finished the night with 40 saves. With the Blizzard net empty the Terriers put the game out of reach when Ryan Hendrix hit the open net from centre ice.

The Terriers now have a 3-2 series lead and have a chance to win the Turnbull cup on home ice Wednesday night at 7:30 pm.
