The Terriers celebrate Brad Bowles' goal in the second period

The Portage Terriers treated a packed PCU Centre last night to an exciting 4-3 shootout win over the visiting Steinbach Pistons. Portage has now tied the franchise record for wins in a row with 17. Michael Knaub opened the scoring for the Portage Terriers in the first period using his speed to get around the defender on a breakaway. Steinbach would tie up the game before the end of the first, three seconds into a Shawn Bowles pentaly.

The Terriers started to rebound in the second period with Brad Bowles found the back of the net on the power play. Jeremey Leipsic would set up a beautiful goal later in the frame as Chase Brakel scored his 25th of the season.

Steinbach would start to push back in the third period scoring two goals to tie it up midway through. Both teams would continue to trade chances keeping fans on the edge of their seat. Overtime solved nothing which lead to the shootout.

Brad Bowles' game winning goal

Brad Bowles would score as the first shooter for Portage, and Josh Bykowski would stop all 3 for Steinbach to give the Terriers the victory.

Terrier defenseman Brett Orr feels they have some room for improvement. "It definitely felt like a playoff atmosphere out there. They were physical off the start and that kind of caught us off guard because we haven't been playing the toughest teams as of late. They really brought it to us off the start but we got some quick goals. We need to work on keeping them out of the net in the third period, but that's a big too points for us."

The Terriers are now off until the 26th, when they will visit the OCN Blizzard.

With the home portion of the regular season complete, the Terriers posted a staggering 28-1 record in their own building.
